About This Test
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is used as part of the admissions process by nursing schools nationwide. Our test center accepts students who are applying to any nursing program, including SJSU.
General Information
- We only administer the paper/pencil version of the TEAS 6.
We do not give the computer-based version of the test.
- Test Fee: $50
All test fees are non-refundable. Fees are subject to change without notice.
If you need to reschedule before the registration deadline, we can transfer your fee.
After registration closes, we can only reschedule in emergencies, with documentation.
We can only reschedule a given registration one time.
- About the TEAS:
The TEAS consists of four content areas: Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English. Total test administration time is approximately 4.5 hours. Candidates will have 3 hours and 29 minutes to complete a total of 170 questions:- Reading: 53 questions (64 minutes)
- Mathematics: 36 questions (54 minutes)
- Science: 53 questions (63 minutes)
- English: 28 questions (28 minutes)
- We will provide four-function calculators for the test. You do not need to bring one.

- Additional Information for Day of Test:
- Arrive 30+ minutes early to allow for updated check-in guidelines with adequate social distancing. Candidates arriving late, after the session has begun, will NOT be admitted.
- When you arrive, stand in a line, at least 6 feet apart from other candidates.
- Candidated will be allowed into the building 5 at a time to check in. Stand on the tape markings on the floor. All other candidates must wait outside until allowed in.
- All candidates and staff will be required to wear a mask.
- NO bags, purses, backpacks, etc. are allowed.
- All belongings must be placed in a clear 1-gallon ziplock bag.
- Check your admission ticket carefully and review the SJSU Campus Map for your room and building assignment. Candidates will be scheduled in groups of 25 in multiple buildings to comply with requirements for gatherings. You MUST report to the correct room on time in order to test.
- All candidates will be seated 6 feet apart to comply with social distancing.
TEAS Test Dates
Testers are assigned at random to either 8:00am or 1:30pm. We cannot assign times.
Reporting times will be on your admission ticket, sent 1 week prior to the test.
Please reserve the entire day and make appropriate arrangements so you can attend.

* Students requiring test accommodations must submit the appropriate documentation to
the Accessible Education Center (AEC). To ensure accommodations can be made, an appointment must be scheduled with an
AEC counselor at least one month prior to your exam date to determine eligibility and prescribe test accommodations.
Students unable to meet this deadline should contact the AEC as soon as possible;
you may also elect to take the exam under standard conditions without receiving accommodations.
