Completing the PPA Off-Campus

Students who live more than 50 miles away from SJSU may request to have their Precalculus Proficiency Assessment proctored at an approved testing center in their area.

This process incurs additional fees (proctoring fees vary by test center) and may require up to 2 full weeks (14 calendar days) advance notice to set up. Plan ahead to make sure you meet all deadlines.

To request to have your PPA proctored:

First: Locate a college/university testing center in your area.

- We only accept other college/university testing centers, including other CSU campuses (fastest).
- The center must have computers with a reliable internet connection and Respondus lockdown browser.
- Get the name of the test center, proctor's name, e-mail address, and phone number.
- Make sure you have already completed the Initial Placement Assessment in ALEKS before requesting.

Next: Fill out a Off-Campus PPA Request Form online (SJSU e-mail or Gmail only).

- IMPORTANT: Enter all information correctly. Your test or your score may be lost otherwise.
- We will contact your proctor first before approving your request. This may take up to 5-7 business days.
- DO NOT SCHEDULE an appointment with your proctor until we approve your request.
- You will be notified by e-mail if your request is approved/denied. A payment link ($20) will be included.
- Once the payment completes processing, we will e-mail test information to your proctor.
- Before your appointment, complete the study modules and the second assessment in ALEKS as practice.

On the day of your test:

- Bring a valid photo ID. Follow your test center's guidelines and procedures.
- You are responsible for any fees charged by your test center.

After you test:

- Your results will be posted to MySJSU by the end of the next business day.
- You will receive a MySJSU message with your course recommendation.

Retaking the PPA:

- You may retake the PPA once, if desired. If you wish to retake your PPA for a higher score, e-mail us.
There is a 3-day cooldown period between attempts. Only the highest score will be counted.
- During the cooldown period, we recommend revisiting the study modules to review missed topics.
- You do not need to do another proctor request. We will notify the same proctor again.
- A new payment link ($20) will be sent to you to cover the processing for your retest.
- Once the payment completes processing, we will e-mail test information to your test center.
- You are responsible for any fees charged by your test center.
